Doctor Who’s 60th year is over. And I hope I played my part with not one, not two, not [this could go on a while] NINETEEN hours of Who-y goodness. That’s not even counting the ones I co-wrote. Or released under a secret name. The boy was busy.
Somehow, we’re already coming to the end of January 2024. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve been a lil blue. I tend to find this time of the year quite tough. But there’s lots to look forward to this year - including some weird and wonderful Whoniverse audios. In just a few months, there are some epic projects that are finally coming to fruition…
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
SONTARANS VS RUTANS: THE CHILDREN OF THE FUTURE is my first release of 2024, out in Feb. It’s part of the ‘50 Years of Sontarans’ celebration and I promise you, this is such a cosy release. That might sound like an odd thing in a miniseries that’s finally exploring the atrocious scale of the Sontaran/Rutan conflict, but I was keen to capture those familial vibes of Season 11 and those strange 1990s audios with the Third Doctor, Sarah and the Brig. Plus, since we have four whole stories to explore this war (the brilliant first one is already out now, <3 C’RIZZ), I was able to approach the theme a little more laterally.
Cryptic hint: There’s something in my previous Season 11 story, THE HOUSE THAT HOXX BUILT, which sets up this one. Yes, I was laying down seeds even back then.
Here’s a trailer for it:
I hope you enjoy! There are some great performances in this, and that cover art is just beautiful. Make sure you get the following two releases in the SONTARANS VS RUTANS miniseries, there are all sorts of narrative threads which will make a rewarding whole.
I’ve vanished off Twitter for the sake of my sanity, but any thoughts/feelings/queries, feel free to message me on here. I’m planning some Big Blogs for a couple of my upcoming releases - particularly for the stories which have been occupying a mammoth part of my brain space - so hopefully this ole Listening Post of mine will be seeing a little more action soon.
Until then, happy listening. Lately I’ve been enjoying TORCHWOOD: POPPET (sublime spookiness) And EXEMPLAR from BBC Audio Drama’s Limelight (starring Gina ‘The Lumiat’ McKee).
Your cheeky little nod! The Doctor mentions needing to "conclude the Cascade Project before the Brigadier gets-" and then the Doctor gets interrupted by the plot before he can finish that thought, lol.
On a parallel note, I love how interconnect your stories are! The 11th Doctor still has his Nightjar model and a Marta Malvani painting in the Tardis Library. The 9th Doctor goes to Venus on Christmas, Paris right before Christmas, and mentions both to Mandy Literland on New Year's Eve! (I say it in that order because the Doctor may have had a Tardis glitch at some point, everyone sounded Irish or Scottish on Venus for him... That or it was a different Venetian trip, lol) Little George Mortimer writes a letter to Eldridge Brinkwood!
These nods have made me revisit some wonderful stories, allowing me to enjoy them again, and I thank you very much for that. It's been a wonderful experience :D
